About Gryphon Atlas
Gryphon Atlas answers travel and collection questions with data read from the game files: zones, flight paths, portals and transports for routes, and the source text the game itself shows for housing decor, mounts, pets and toys.
Where the data comes from
Each catalog refresh reads the public game data that the launcher downloads from the game's content network. This build uses:
- Midnight: client build
12.1.5.70391 - Forever: client build
1.60.1.70245 - MoP Classic: client build
5.5.4.70268 - Classic Era: client build
1.15.9.70003 - Anniversary: client build
2.5.6.70006
Gryphon Atlas reads the game's data tables and icons from the files the game launcher downloads. We do not open, change or decompile the game program, and we do not unlock files Blizzard ships locked. Icons and game text belong to Blizzard Entertainment.
Credits
The table layouts come from WoWDBDefs (wowdev; definitions CC BY-SA 4.0, code BSD-3-Clause). The table reader is DBCD (MIT). We read the game servers' content network with TACTSharp (MIT), decode icons with BLPSharp (MIT) and encode them with cwebp (BSD-3-Clause), all built on .NET (MIT).
What the data cannot show
- Drop rates, vendor stock and most NPC names live on the game servers, not in the client.
- Routes do not assume player flying. Overland links between zones are estimated from map rectangles and are marked approximate.
- Portal unlocks are only partly readable: where a portal needs earlier quests, we show the quest IDs.
- Classic boats and zeppelins run on the server. We add them by hand from public sources and link each source.
- Decor treasure-hunt riddle answers are not in the client files.
